Date Night

In this exercise you will go through the entire design process from research, design, ideate, develop and analysis to redesign and recreate date night.

1. Start by you and your partner interviewing eachother. Take 8 minutes, 4 minutes each, to interview and research what your experiences and thoughts are about date night.

2. Now dig a little deeper and take 8 more minutes, 4 minutes each, to do some deeper research on the subject.

3. Individually, take 3 minutes to collect your thoughts and reflect on what you’ve learned about your partner.

4. Now  select the most compelling goal and most interesting insight to articulate a problem statement.

5. Rewrite your problem statement at the top of the page and  5 minutes to sketch as many ideas as possible. Try to come up with at least 7 ideas.

6. Now take 4 minutes each to share your sketches with your partner.  Make sure to note likes/dislikes and build on the idea, but also listen for new insights.

7. Reflect & generate a new solution. This solution may be a variation on an idea from before or something completely new.

Remeber you are still addressing a problem statement that you articulated, but it is possible that the previous problem statement may need to change to incorporate the new insights and needs you discovered.

8. Use the idea you just sketched as a blueprint for a tangible manifestation of their solution. Make sure to create an experience that your partner can react to.

9. You now have four minutes each to share and collect feedback, and then you will switch so the other partner can share. Jot down things your partner liked and didn’t like about the idea, as well as questions that emerged and new ideas that came up.
